The word Giclée ("jiclê") comes from the French verb gicler, meaning "to splash. This word is a neologism coined about 30 years ago, in the early 1990s, by the late Jack Dugganne. The word is used to describe an inkjet printing process that combines mineral pigment-based inks with substrates - and therefore paper - of exceptional quality, i.e., high durability.
The giclée print is essentially a form of reproduction presented to artists for whom mass production of their work is not possible. The giclée print makes it possible to reproduce them with a guarantee of quality, permanence and fidelity to the original.
